White Lodge @ Blink, The Mill and MPC come together with a delicious appetiser for last night's British Arrows.

To mark the results of the prestigious 2011 British Arrow awards White Lodge, The Mill and MPC joined forces to create a luxuriously sensuous film to showcase the generous support of the event sponsors.

I love the sound track to this silly jello-ness.

Shot on location at the quintessentially British listed building 33 Portland Place (where key scenes from the Oscar-winning ‘Kings Speech’ were filmed), the piece plays with the current hot-trend for colour blocking outfits with bright, confident, clashing tones. Developing a playful take on the style concept, White Lodge director Karan Kandhari introduced a destructive mischief to show all manner of jellies meeting a variety of sticky endings – under a seductively stilettoed foot, in the flames of a raging blow torch, and stroked to oblivion on a metallic grater.

“The aim was to make something fun and visual by using contrasts within the film - subtle graceful moments against harsher ones,” explains Karan. “Adding to this, the stark vibrancy of colour blocking as an aesthetic felt like the perfect application to create another level of contrast as it played against the more vintage opulence of the dark interior.”

“The Mill were once again asked to help create the sponsors film for the British Arrows and better still White Lodge got involved on the Production side,” says Luke Colson, Executive Producer at The Mill. “Once we looked at the treatment from Karan we were in no doubt that the film would be a hit. A few days in Flame, Smoke and Nuke, and a Grade with James Bamford were all that was needed to make this beautifully shot film look even nicer.”

“MPC jumped at the chance to be involved in such a fantastic film,” adds MPC MD Graham Bird. “The MPC FX Studio created photo real 3D Jelly beans to enhance the volume of the shots in camera along with a few extra flourishes to tighten a couple of the other sponsor logos. The end result is testament to a number of very talented people collaborating brilliantly to create a great looking film.”

About Karan Kandhari:

Indian-born director Karan Kandhari moved to the UK (via Kuwait and the UAE) to study film in 1999. His first feature, ‘Bye Bye Miss Goodnight’, played with the road movie genre and went on to be selected for screening at numerous international film festivals.

Karan followed this up with a short, ‘Hard Hat’, a melancholic comedy about three misfit immigrants in contemporary England. The film won the Audience Award at the prestigious Rushes Soho Shorts in 2010 amongst others. The film was snapped up by Canal Plus for broadcast and is simultaneously being developed as a feature.

Most recently Karan was commissioned by COS to celebrate its sponsorship of the Frieze Art Fair with a playful studio-set piece. The film was featured on a range of editorial sites including Dazed & Confused, iD, Wonderland and Diane Pernet’s A Shaded View Of Fashion Film platform, establishing Karan as a powerful new voice in the burgeoning real of fashion film.
