Aldi - Easter Gorilla #AldiFavouriteThings (2016) :40

Aldi has decided to spoof the Cadbury Gorilla ad. Well, it's not so much as spoof as it is a reference, because here we have a gorilla grunting at Easter chocolate bunnies and then tearing into a terrible drum solo. "You should hear me on the piano" he quips, which is also not a thing the original gorilla did. What's the connection? Why, chocolate, of course. If you have chocolate on sale it makes perfect sense to make a cheap knock-off of one of the most memorable chocolate advert in decades. Funny ha ha, as they say. Self-referential advertising is a giant in-joke, but it can work in certain instances, like when an entire campaign is created as one. Take the Boddington adverts for example. But then when you parody anything there will be those who love the original so much they're offended by it, and that has already happened here. Aw poo.
