30 seconds of fame?
According to Andy Warhol, everyone (even adgrunts) will enjoy 15 minutes of fame. But, how many commercials get immortalized in a TV show?
Question to adgrunts: Did an episode of Futurama make reference to a Mountain Dew commercial?

Bender was talking through New Central Park Zoo when he passed by this display:

I think, but I might be crazy, the show's writers were making a reference to this great commercial:

Well you know you have managed to seep into the collective subconcious of the folks outside of "Adland" (and by that I mean the general term of the ad biz) when you hear "whassuuuuuuup" yelled in precisly that bud -way on the streets, hear Blood hound gang singing about Mr Coffee's automatic drip, hear people use phrases like "good to the last drop" or frog-croaking "bud-weis-eeerrr".. and most definatly when you end up in other forms of Pop Culture, LIke when The Noxema Girl "brenda" refers to herself as such in the first Urban Legends B-movie, or shows like the simpsons, Family Man or Futurerama let you flash by as an "in-joke".
Are all comedic writers in the simpsons/futurrama/family man ex- or wannabe copywriters?
I think it is a "homage to" that silly Mt Dew ad actually.. Good find Rob, you ad geek. :- )
aww I missed an episode of Futurama :(
ooh, back on topic, right. Well, if you watch Futurama regularly, it is one show that tends to poke at pop-culture via the absurd and humorous. Being a cartoon I think makes it an easier format to do so. I think, although I could be wrong, they also jumped on the "waaasssssup" joke bandwagon as well at one point (as did tons of others.)
I think Robblink is right. It's definatly a nod to that Mt Dew ad.
