Wimbledon Model Commercial
Hate people who do this and hate even more to be the person who does this, but..............
Does ANYONE know the producer of an ad that played non-stop during the 2008 Wimbledon Championships a couple weeks ago? It involves 3 models flying into Lake Como for a photo shoot and I've talked to at least 15 people who know exactly what commercial I'm talking about and couldn't begin to tell me anything about what product it was.
I'm using the commercial for my advertising class on how sex appeal is an inefficient way to advertise because although it clearly grabs attention, the attention does not go to the product.
It is some kind of beverage I think with an Italian name. Either water or beer or I don't know.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ooh, that's a tricky one. I haven't seen the ad you mean.
Think Axe/Lynx might be a way to show that perhaps sex appeal does work - people definitely remember the product on those ones! However, it appeals only to a certain demographic and, usually with an element of humour attached. Or does it?
Also, Wimbledon is on the BBC and they don't show ads, so maybe offering that information is not helping us remember! It could honestly be for anything!
But I'll have a scout around the Web and see what crops up.
Nope, been through every archive of UK ads I can find on the Web and nothing. I think we need more details!
I'm positive it's not a UK ad. If it ran "non-stop" I would have seen it at some point.
Anyway, NeilMac is based in the USA, so I'm assuming he's talking about something that ran there. The reference to Lake Como sounds American as well. (The reference to Wimbledon was just a cunning double bluff.)
Durrr.... for some reason when I read "Lake Como" my brain substituted "Lake Tahoe", which is why I suggested it sounded USan.
Yes, Lake Como is in Italy. Even with my stunted geographical sense I knew that much. Honestly.
Oh man, you got me - I immediately assumed UK at the sight of Wimbledon. Duh!
neilmac lists their location as Knoxville. I gather there is no Knoxville in the UK? ;9 We need some US ad nerds in this thread.
Oops, that shows it pays to look up someone's profile! I guess that's why I never saw it either (not that I'm an avid watcher of TV anyway). I thought it was M&S for a while, but couldn't find a Lake Como reference. Now it all makes sense :)
I assume you mean the commerical for an Italian beer called Peroni...Peroni Nastro Azzuro ... I have never seen the beer, and I just began seeing the commericals a couple of weeks ago here in the US. Look at this and let me know if this is the one you mean: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qw91AegxE5k.
Cheers!
Trust me, Peroni Nastro Azzuro is a lush drink!
