SuperBowl Commercials
Every year I watch "Super Bowl Greatest Commercials" on CBS and while I enjoy the show, I'm getting pretty sick and tired of it. The reason why is that they literally show the same commercials every show. They don't show any new commercials. The same ones over and over again. Don't have the show if your just going to show the same ones over and over again. It's dumb how you look forward to watching the show all year and they show the same thing. In 2007, CBS loaded the first 30 mins. worth of SB commercials and then spent the last half hour going into full detail about the Super Ad and the Doritos ad. The Super Ad, I think aired on the NFL Network, and we had to see how the ad was created etc. I could be wrong on that but I know they aired the Doritos ad. They showed who won and how the ad winners were selected. The winners then created their ad-which was shown. The Doritos ad was one of the worst ads in the SuperBowl. What a disgrace. Now CBS will air a "Super Bowl's Greatest Commercials" on Jan. 26,2008. From what I've seen from the page on cbs.com where I found it, it looks like more of the same. Unbelievable.

It's true that some bowl-ads are repeated forever while some linger in obscurity no matter what "best-of-superbowl ads" show you watch. Take Apple for instance, the 1984 one is always mentioned while the lemmings one from 1985 seems universally hated and never spoken of again (unless it's on a "worst of the super bowl ads" list).
I haven't seen the CBS show though so I don't know how repetitive it's gotten.
The repetitive nature of these shows is what they're all about. "Best of" shows are always going to be that way, because other than a few additions with each additional year, the "best of" is going to remain the same. The only variable is going to be based on the criteria the producers use for judging what's best.
I'd like to see the Adland "best of superbowls past" 'show', based on adgrunts votes/amount of hits or something so we know what people here like.

That's a great idea. It would be interesting to see what the adgrunts think are the best Super Bowl Ads, as opposed to those the Networks picked. It would be also interesting to see if there was ever a so-called "people's choice" version of the best of the Super Bowl ads.
I'm always interested to see the difference between what the Academy votes for, and what the People's Choices are at Oscar Time. Of course, who really knows how the People's Choices are tabulated, but it's interesting just the same. The Oscars are so influenced by the Studios spending millions on advertising, parties, and swag to sway Academy voters. Every year I would become instantly popular at Oscar time when the boxes and boxes of first VHS tapes, and then DVDs would start arriving for every film the Studios were pushing "for your consideration.
