Possibly the most depressing Xmas ad ever

I shared this the other day with the gang on Disturbing Auctions Daily, but it's so jaw-dropping that I wanted to show it off over here, too.

1947 was a hard year, but Santa preparing to blow his brains out? Jeez.

The only problem is that this picture is lifted from the eBay listing, and the copy isn't legible. If anyone knows what it says, please share!

And as one of the DA gang said, it's a bit disturbing to know that Santa doesn't wear socks inside his boots.

Dark humor in ads. Who would have thunk it.

Dark is one thing, but this is going a bit far. Even for me.

And it was 1947.

I think they were crazier back then. ;)

It is very very dark.

1947, eh?......

Gee, didn't all these people survive a WORLD WAR a few years before??

Wasn't only 2 YEARS since the first Atom Bomb was used to kill???

I think they could be very wild after all that.

(Indeed, the looming nuclear threat certainly informed my childhood, and many other Boomers. I wouldn't be surprised if reaction to doom and gloom was part of the impetus to the 'hippie' movement of the late 60's and early 70's - not to mention more availability of various drugs, including the Pill). ;->

I like it. Cuts to the chase.

Wow...ads had more bite back in those days. I like.
