Where are the *Future* ads?
Yes, I think you*re right - it is a form of spamming. Maybe that is why it has not been done (to my knowledge). But we have all received those annoying telephone calls from people who are trying to sell us something over the phone, some are recordings (I really hate those!), so would these types of ads be much different?
I suppose the real problem might be the technology part of it. How exactly would the ad be sent? Satellite? Ground transmitter? Ads sent to you via your phone service provider? Then there is the issue of privacy. Each time you received an ad on your wireless device somebody might know where you are.
The podcast ads were mostly predicted with the rise of the video iPod. The thinking there, I think, is as TV becomes less popular advertisers will move in to that area. Perhaps one could download a favourite show for free to a video iPod, but the downloaded show would include commercials, just like on TV.

I seem to recall years ago there was talk by some about electronic type ads. Something about ads being beamed to your cell/mobile phone when you reached certain areas of a city. I*m not exactly sure how it would work, but I suppose the idea was short-range transmitters would send ads out that could be received by cell/mobile phones (and other wireless devices) when people with the devices entered certain areas of a city. For example, instead of seeing a billboard, your phone would display an ad on the screen, or your Blackberry would, or whatever, when you travelled to within range of these special ad transmitters. There was also talk about ads with podcasts. Could this still be the future? Or is it as real as the flying car that in the 1920s was predicted for the 1980s?
Isn*t that essentially spamming though? You*d have to optin I*d guess for people not to revolt with this sort of thing. Funny, I just had a conversation with someone about this type of mobile advertising.
