I didn*t see Orville Redenbacher, Uncle Ben, or Frank and Ed, but I*m sure it*s just a matter of time.

Did I just see Orville Redenbacher---dead Orville Redenbacher---re-animated in for a commercial? Some MP3 player promotion?
Is it a guy in heavy makeup? Is it CGA? Is this for real? I*ve seen the old-timey movie stars edited into new spots, to look real and current....but that was with actual footage. I got the feeling they chose an MP3 player promotion just because it didn*t exist in 1995, when he DID. Overall, it was creepy.
Anybody have any inside details about what gives here?
Adweek did a bit of a write up prior to it airing here

Says he was digitally recreated.
Also just came across more stuff in this press release

Must get that ad. So weeeeeeird!
I find the whole idea really unappetizing, yaknow?
Ad is in the archive here

What a sick idea. No, really. This is not a well conceived idea.
What if Wendy*s created a "virtual" Dave Thomas? Who would find that workable?
KFC actually did have an animated Colonel Sanders for a bit. Somehow that wasn*t as bad as trying to make a "real" Orville!
Actually, I*ve only seen the commercial on one program so far, so could it be that they*re rethinking? Really, the CGI work hasn*t progressed enough to make it "real," and that only adds to the creepy factor of viewing it.
Granted Redenbacher was a great pitchman, but you have to let it go. They recycled the ad he did from the 1970s for a while as a sort of "stop-gap" measure. But he*s gone. This isn*t helping!
Why not get a Plastic Faced guy with a permanent grin walking around and silently selling the product! It hasn*t seemed to hurt Burger King! lol
Which is creepier looking? Orville Redenbacher or Burger King?
I think the Orville Redenbacher zombie is just the start. I*m sure we will see more of this kind of thing in the future, it will just be much better done. Dead celebrities will live again in commercials in ways we have not seen before. Has Elvis ever been featured in a Burger King commercial? Nevermind.
Well, ever since Fred Astaire danced with the dirt devil we knew it was gonna go downhill, didn*t we?

I*ll say. At least then they had to dig through reels and reels of film to find the scenes they wanted that would fit into their commercials. With this new technology they don*t need to go through all that cut *n* paste type stuff.
Ginger Rogers being replaced with a Dirt Devil. I have a big problem with that - and I bet she and Fred would too.
