eek <-- that face expresses everything i am feeling right now.
i*m a fourth year advertising student in new york and i am
feeling the pressure more than ever. i*m searching for an internship
spring semester. the problem is, i just dont know where. i am abundent
resources to pick from, BBDO, DDB, TAXI, SAATCHI & SAATCHI..etc.
i wrote emails and sent my resume and sample of my work but none of the places
replied back. what am i suppose to do? how can i get in touch with these people?
As one advertising teacher taught me, "...keep pushing and try to open every door. You may try to open 10 doors, and they may all be locked, but the 11th door might open for you."
All you can ever do is keep trying. Keep e-mailing and keep calling the creative recruiters.
Kick down the doors. Only heed to the advice in the last paragraph here in
pounding the pavement (about bringing a notebook) since I was pretty bitter when I wrote that.
Pull strings and stunts to get in - and be more stubborn than acne on a teenage lads face.
Do you prefer the work one agency does over another? If so go after the ones you like best first. Some of the bigger agencies have internship programs with submission deadlines and all that jazz. Also don*t forget smaller shops too; sometimes you get a much better experience working at a smaller place, you touch more, get to do more, etc. Of course there are pros and cons to both sides (large/international vs. smaller).
Also I*d suggest if you really like the work of a team at one of these agencies, see if you can get in touch with them directly (sometimes these folks are *slightly* less busy than a CD) and ask them who to contact about internships etc. I*ve found usually you get better results when you hunt down a human vs. sending things to some internships@ type email/contact.
