commercial about life stages
Thank you for your post. I am obsessed with finding out what this ad is so I am going to try to be persistant. I sent this email to keith mcarthur at the Globe and Mail, our Canadain version of the Financial Post I guess. He has a weekly column that reviews tv ads in CANADA, where it is then rated by ad execs. My be you can think of some other knowlegeable people that I could email. Thanks Chris

Subject My quest to find a TV ad!! Its been in my mind for years
Hi Keith, love your column. I am on a quest to find a tv ad that used to run. I am fascinated by the tv ad medium , which when done well, gives a brief memorable message. I am a subsrciber to a website called www.commercial-archive.com, and I have asked them question
Probably 5 or 6 years ago there was a tv ad running that went something like this
Just when you get good at being a baby, you are a child, and when you get good at being a child, you are an adult, and when you get good at being good at being an adult....the secret to success in life is not to good at something eventually , but to get good while there is still time to do you some benifit.
Note, as the narrator would convey this idea, the video portion would change to reflect the words. It seemed that this was by an investment company, and I always liked the sentiment expressed. Does this ad sound familiar to anyone?? I would most especially like to know what company it was. Thanks Chris from Canada.
I have spent hours looking through their archive on ads by dean witter, agf, morgan stanley, met life, etc.. all dead ends. Then i wondered if this may be a canada specific ad. Then I though about writting you or putting this request in a letter to the editor, or in your column. With your reach to a lot of ad professionals, surly this ad must sound familar to someone. You can see my post by going to above website www.commercial-archive.com, clicking on adforum, scroll down to look for heading "searching for advert", I am username9999.
I have had one reply, and I mentioned your column as my next step. I used to watch CNN a lot at the time, so it is possible it was on that channel, but with all the american ads that are in the archive, I would have figured it would be there.

There was a wonderful ad done 15 years ago for Sony. It showed a person on a sofa changing during his life from baby to old man. Could that me the one you are looking for? It was called life style I believe
I appreciate your reply. I don*t think so, but i will look in the archives to see if the ad you are refering to MIGHT be it. I am from canada, so it is a possibliity that this was a Canada specific ad. I found a web forum that appears in the globe and mail called the hard sell. KEITH McARTHUR is the columist, and the have a small archive of tv ads. I am going to check with them as well Thanks again for showing some interest in my quest to find this ad.
here is a copy of email I sent to the GLOBE and MAIL.. By the way a couple of years ago I posted a similar request here in this forum, so this has been on my mind for a while!!!!
