step by step progression of an old VW bug ad

I*ve been searching everywhere, and I can*t find this "anatomy of a print ad" that I*ve seen before.

It depicts the creation of a single page print ad for the original VW bug in the U.S.--thus from the 40*s or 50*s. It goes through a variety of stages--each illustrating the dumb crap that bad art direction or sophmoric cilentele cause, then resulting at a fine advert.

It was part of Tim Hamill*s presentation at the 2005 HOW conference, and I know I*d seen it before that--any info on books it*s appeared in or otherwise would be greatly appreciated.

gosh that does ring a bell... wasnt it shown in Cutting edge advertising?

I dont have that book here so i cant check... Anyone else remember?

Hokey smokes! What am I missing in that book? Amazon says it*s a trade paperback, but used copies start out at $154? It does list Volkswagen with quite a few page numbers in its index, though. Anywhere else, or for certain?

It*s a great book - but I don*t have "my copy" here, so I can*t check for you. See the signed copy of Cutting Edge that I got after exchanging pleasant emails with Jim Aitchison was flown to the UK as a prize in the signup lottery here. I wonder how much that one is worth today! grin

Someone else around must have it and can let us know if it*s in there before you commit to getting a copy, I*m sure. Anyone, Bueller?

Besides, amazon has horrid prices on used creative books. You really need to check your live-in-the-flesh specilized bookstore for that (depending on where you live you may or may not have a good one in your city).

I emailed DailyLama to see if they can*t look it up in their book. hehe!

If that email is still valid. It didn*t bounce anyway. smile

Anyone heard or seen anything?

It looks like a book I should probably just get regardless, but I hate to order it assuming my problems will be solved (that problem, anyway wink ) and end up dissappointed. Any of my local stores would have to order it, and the library doesn*t have it.

Thanks!
