I would be very happy if anyone could please tell me their favorite shops in the Bay Area at the moment. I*m trying to put together a small list of the best creative agencies in San Francisco at the moment, and so far I haven*t found much beyond the global networks. There has to be at least a few smaller shops doing good work in SF. No?

Odiorne Wilde Narraway Groome (see work under link)

Foote, Cone & Belding - Ketchum (nice-ish) - Goodby of course.

Yeah, I*ve been a bit busy at MASE in Hamburg and haven*t had much time for cruising the blogosphere. Anyway, thanks for your input. Anyone else have something to ad to the list?
I like the stuff Venables Bell has done..
Definitely Chiat in SF. Adidas, Fox Sports, and some other stuff. TV shop mostly, I think.

I moved to the Bay Area two years ago and have been searching myself. Here are some of the best small/independent places I*ve found
Amazon Advertising -- fewer than 20 employees. They recently hired a writer so I hope you*re not one.
Attik and AKQA are the hot online shops here.
Butler, Shine & Stern -- my friend worked there and said the CD*s are pretty negative & hard to impress, so be warned.
Eleven, Inc. has grown a lot recently. Decent work.
Grant, Scott & Hurley -- good work, good people.
Heat is really small -- used to be Black Rocket.
Maiden Lane has some decent work too.
Mortar isn*t changing the world, but you could do worse.
Organic is all interactive.
Wolfe/Doyle has some pretty good stuff.
Agencycompile.com helped me find some of these places.

Oh yeah, Odiorne Wilde Narraway that Dabitch mentioned I think have folded -- all you get on http//www.ownp.com/ is a phone number. And I would agree that Venables is one of the better places in town; like a number of the small shops here, they were founded by former Goodby people.

Good shops in SF: gotta love Goodby, Butler, Eleven, Buda Engle (underated but fine work), Real Branding (bad name, great online chops), Interactive Bureau (Cool name). Oh and I think McCann may have an office somewhere nearby....

O W N G folded? Oh man. I fancied them. I almost stalked them into to getting a job (didn't work). I also remember being dead embarrassed about handing over my card as theirs was this thick heavy at least 8 ply lead printed paper where the phonetic script spelling out Odiorne Wilde Narraway Groome the way it should be pronounced was deep grooves in that lovely paper filled with lovely brown ink, it was stunning. Meanwhile I had ratty little 1 ply black card with colorized green letters on top spelling out first my name, and then the phonetic script version right underneath. I didn't want to show them that no matter how funny the coincidence. I also recall being a tad miffed, as who the hell would have trouble figuring out how to pronounce O W N G? Meanwhile my first name alone has people confused, nevermind both. ;p They stole the idea dammit! /mock outrage
