Hi

I have posted on here before (obviously! LOL) and am starting to take my AD discipline in school alot more serious and decided to stay in my AD course, instead of jumping into copywriting. My teacher told me to try another quarter as an AD student and give it more time as next quarter we will be using computers to layout/design, delve into typography, etc. Then if it is not something that appeals to me, I can then consider switching to CW for the following quarter. I have come to realize over the last week or 2, since my initial posts, that my main reason for wanting to change disciplines in school is that all we have been learning so far (basic layout, design principles and graphics, computers) scared me and I did not want to deal with it and wanted to go instead for copy as I write well (or so I like to think!), but then I realized that I am more visual and have always been, as I love looking at design, have always been more artsy and love to draw too and express my ideas on paper, hence my decision to get into Art Direction, so I have decided to let go of my fears and delve into Layout, Design and learn the CS2 programs, before giving up. smile

Anyone know of any great books to learn Design and Layout, etc?

I have one book "Using Design Basics to Creative Results Bryan Peterson. Its basic but it goes thru all the principles of design and elements (which went right over my head in class!), so I am just trying to understand the basics so I can then go further. One AD who wrote to me told me the importance of being a good designer. Because execution is everything, right? By the way, most of the books I am checking out online at Amazon.com are mostly written by Graphic Designers with them in mind, but my Layout/Design teacher (who is a graphic designer by trade) told me that I would benefit from learning the basics of design from those books, even if I am studying to be an Art Director. Is that true or are there books out there for Art Directors in mind, when dealing with layout/design, etc?

Thanks again guys. You have all been great.
