spam message deleted by Dab
Keep running on the spot inside your little wheel Spamster- but go away!
Methinks someone needs Dabitch to be bitched out. lol
Banned user from logging in (or ever seeing the site again mind you - I blocked their IP), deleted the sales-pitch. Made a note on their user-page http//ad-rag.com/~wholefoodplankton.com
Usually I just delete their messages/posts too but since I was away yesterday y*all had time to comment! wink
Aww, come ON. Can*t believe you deleted this message. I mean, how do we know it was spam? $12,000 - pretty sweet, and I sure know if I*d just made that kind of money I*d want to share the know-how with cash-strapped but plucky and resourceful types like me.
*wholefoodplankton.com" sounds like a very reliable source from whom I would be happy to take career advice, just as soon as my pyramid scheme cash comes through, oh yeah.
That*s Dabitch for you, trying to keep all the good stuff for herself.
Hehehe.
I usually just block the account from ever being entered again and ban the IP they log from, leaving their user page up as a note of the reason for ban, like this obobo05 - but now that it*s getting to happen more and more often I*m seriously considering cleaning out dead user accounts.
I mean, 68626 registered users is a nice huge number to throw around when people ask how big the site is, but honestly only 25k of those users are truly active.
Deleting dud accounts would have the advantage of freeing up common names, so if "john" was a dud account, and so was "john1" and "john2" finally a john could be a john around here. wink
Since 2003 there*s been a check if the account was ever logged into - but sometimes I See really old users suddenly log back in again and comment so I don*t want to risk throwing out someone who signed up in 2000 just because I fancy a little spring cleaning in the database. Maybe I could check all the emails and if the email is a dud I delete the account (because then they can*t have gotten their password, or ever logged in). Then again, some people log in and change their emails to duds. (Idiots! Arrgh!).
Tough call, what to do... The norm of websites is usually to not delete a created account. It*s the least work intensive solution. wink
Yeah, that*ll have to do. *raises coffeeemug to toast to that*
Wow Dabitch - your last post was a definite *stream of conscious*, one person, problem solving, brainstorm - and you resolved the issue!
.........absolutely inspiring smile
I know, I talk too much.
Figure I should start doing that in the forums so people know i actually do stuff around here. wink
I mean, besides hanging around bein* purdy. *poses*
Ha Ha! .....very *purdy* - very cute wink
See here*s another one I just banned a minute ago http//ad-rag.com/~larryrooney
I s*pose it*s some sort of a compliment that getting spam in this forum here is so attractive they even bother to sign up?
Feck knows. I*m really tempted in cleaning out the user-listings and deleting clear duds (users that have no special avatar and that have not logged in and who*s email bounces as a criteria). It would free up LOTS of usernames.
What do y*all think? Should I bother when other sites don*t?
Jeez I can*t make up my mind apparantly. wink
by the way, I*d be mad chuffed if showing videos autmagically made one $12,000. Here that would be times 30K. Yowza!
"Oslo Russia"?
Well, it*s some sort of something, that*s for sure. It didn*t take long for the Internet to turn into the Idiotnet, did it?
I would set a reasonable time limit, say one year, and if there has been no activity on the account (no log in) I would send an email and inform the account holder that the account is under review for deletion due to a lack of log in activity in the past year. I would give the account holder 30 days to respond. If no reply is received within 30 days, or if the email address is not valid, I would delete the account and give the resource to someone who will use it. I would delete all accounts that have had no log in activity for more than one year without giving it any thought. That*s my $0.02.

I*m inclined to agree with TDD, but can*t help thinking that there may be some innocent casualties... you know who I*m talking about, yes, it*s COMA VICTIMS.
If movies and soap operas are to be believed (and I see no reason why not) comas are an extremely common occurrence, especially where identical twins are concerned.
Picture the scene Elsie, comatose for 13 months following a fall downstairs (or was she pushed...?) wakes up at the touch of her long-lost identical twin brother, Ernie*s, hand. They had been separated at birth, but Ernie finally tracked Elsie down to this very hospital room. However, these first treasured moments between them are cruelly terminated when Ernie informs Elsie that her adland account has been deactivated due to over a year*s idleness.
Elsie promptly falls back into her coma, Ernie dies of grief. FIN
Won*t someone please think of the coma victims?
Ha Ha ....... nice one!
Seriously though John, you*re a seriously disturbed individual with a cyber-gender crisis going on, and you really need to cut back on the Guinness !
- just kidding, and BTW, you really made me smile smile
