An Old VW Advert

It was 1988, would you believe. The commercial is called "Changes".

I found a QuickTime version, complete with strident feminist commentary, here

http//www.southbank.net/documents/film/Media/Advertising/changes.htm

It was obviously taped from the Channel 4 programme "The 100 Greatest TV Ads" (where it rated 42nd).

Warning! I could open and play the video, but it eventually froze my browser (Opera). I think it*s just a really bloated file.

The accompanying book of the programme gives the following further information

Agency BMP DDB Needham (London)

Director David Bailey

Actress Paula Hamilton

Soundtrack "Everybody Goes Through Changes", Alan Price

This was the first UK Volkswagen ad that had a "soft" emotional message instead of emphasising how tough and durable the cars were.

To One & All,

Back in the *80*s, I think it was around 1985 0r *86, Volkswagen made an advert for the Golf GTI that was shown in the UK.

The advert featured the model Paula Hamilton throwing away her coat, boyfriends house keys and gems but she obviously chooses to keep the car keys. The soundtrack was the song *Changes* sung, I think, by Alan Price.

In essence, does anyone out there know where to get a copy from. I know its lazy but since this THE site for advertising professionals, I thought somebody might have an idea.

Cheers,

A.

christ, I*ve seen that so many times.. Most likely on an old D&AD collections reel. Drats, I can*t recall which one.....

1985 is a good guess but somehow I thought it was earlier.. That fur coat, the pearls.. It was so 1984.....
