How many PM*s do you have? No wait, do you like being anon?

I don*t think I have ever had 269 of anything in my life. No, wait, I once had a jar full of pennies. |
Haa! lol
Well yaknow, I can totally see that one doesn*t want to chat up strangers over the PM, I know I wouldn*t but even if only a handful find it useful that*s cool. The widgets been in here since 2000 so even with only counting my inbox we got a mileage out of it. wink)

Staying anonymous is important to me - or, at least, I think it is for now. One can never be too careful on the internet. |
Yes. I totally understand that. I was anon for the longest time (in that my username and real name was never connected) and can see why people in this business (or any biz really) would want to keep a buffer between what they say here and waht their real names are. Hence the registered user thing from the start.
Sure, it puts a bit of a damper on comments to front page articles when people have to sign up in order to comment, but there is an advantage in that users with one name, are always that user, with a page showing their history of comments/ratings and anything they wish to reveal about themselves. That username gains credit by his/her behaviour on the site, while at the same time nobody knows who that user really is (unless they reveal it themselves). Privacy is nice when you*re complaining about your bosses latest advert. wink
On the upside, the "damper" on comments also prevents comment spam and that sort of thing.

Random poll (and just to satisfy my own curiosity) - how many private messages do y*all get from other members? I get them all the time, in fact right now my left "who*s online box" reads
Welcome - Dabitch.
You have 269 private message(s).
Naturally, I get more than most as people ask me questions etc (hint they*re always in the FAQ.. hahaha!) - but really, do you guys PM other people? If not why not?
It was added with the "maybe you wanna stay anonymous but be able to chat to other members here anyway" thought in mind. With the PM nobody has to know what your email addy is.
Though I see some actually publish their emails. Wait this became another question then, what I really wanna know is how important is it to you to be able to stay anonymous in that nobody here knows your real name or what agency you work at, but they still "know" you in a way as they can see what you rate, comment and perhaps contribute.... Is it very important? Kinda cool extra feature.. or "I never even noticed"? smile
I*ve only received five PMs. I*ve never sent any because I don*t like to impose on others.

I have been a member of AdLand for at least one year now, and I have only sent one PM, and received one PM. I guess I don*t send PMs because I really don*t want to be a bother to anyone. I really can*t think of a reason why anyone would be interested in a receiving PM from me.
I am a very private person in real life. I am also a magician. Secrecy in a big part of me, and my profession. Right or wrong, I keep secrets. Staying anonymous is important to me - or, at least, I think it is for now. One can never be too careful on the internet.
On the other hand, I try to participate here, learn, contribute, and play nice. I certainly enjoy reading the comments of many of the adgrunts in AdLand. I hope at least a few adgrunts here take some interest in what I post, even-though I am an *outsider* to the advertising world - and I probably don*t know what I am talking about.
