About adland: What do you think of the tags?

er...I mean that*s where they*d end up. wink

Hey all

I was wondering what y*all think of the tags http//ad-rag.com/tags/

I*ve put some explanations/instruction/helpful hints in the FAQ (that nobody reads hahaha, kidding) here 8. Tags! What are they and how can I use them? and when they first appeared I posted a front page article about it here http//ad-rag.com/120289.php

so, it*s been a while now, and while I see some die-hard adgrunts use them, and I mean really really use them, I see that hundreds of other adgrunts never tag anything. So random poll, what do you think of the tags? Ever tagged anything? Find the idea useful or not?

I think tags are great! I found out about tags by chance from my clicking around the site. I find tags very useful for searching. Thanks for the added information about tags in the FAQ!

I think the tags are a good idea, although I confess I haven*t used them myself (yet). wink

yeay! Postive responses. smile

It*s one of those things that I thought was really cool, and kinda wagered that probably only a third of the regulars would latch onto, as there is a clear-cut group of new techie-toy die-hards around here, and another large group of people who don*t seem to care much for the bells and whistles at all, they just wanna watch ads and that*s it. wink

So I built it anyway, thinking it might take off in the long run, yaknow after a while... I mean, it*s not like we have flickr type huge crowds running around in here so I expect it*ll take a while - a long LONG while - before every ad in the archive has a tag. In fact that probably won*t happen ever but hey, it*s still a neat idea. Methinks.

What a fantastic way to add interativity to this site and ensure we the user an opputunity to provide individualistic value perspective and content to the site. it*s truly a great idea!

I do however embrace your fears for it being contained within the confines of just ad-phile users, marginalising us all.

May I suggest you "hold fast" to your intial thoughts of how you saw "Tags" inclusion to your site; a valuabe and useful tool in revealing trends, new forms of interaction between user and the inevitable commonalities between your users.

You could use the phenomenom*s that occur, resulting opinions and groups as a bases for providing, we the user with even more entertaining an interesting content. Thus slewing the margins that threaten to wide the gap of ad-viewer and ad-phile.. ..

p.s How*s about a "Duck week" ..Where for a week only ads that feature "ducks" are reviewed and screened..... Nah I think a Directors week might be better. hmmm what do who think???

Tags seem like a good idea to me - especially if there*s one marked "GoodIdeaFromSmallMarketThatNooneWouldNoticeIf YouRippedOff".

I joke of course.

Someone in AdLand would always notice.

From the "knew this was coming" department - currently the biggest tag is , of course, lingerie.

So does anyone but lingerie-lovers tag?

johndoom - the fun thing about tags is that you can make one of those tags! I suggest something shorter and snappier though. Maybe "stealthis". wink

....and on that note, nobody has made a "Ripoff" tag yet.

Ok, that sorta feels a little like my fault because I confess - I started that tag just to kinda show the possibilities... And hoo boy did some people like that one. wink

So, today I started a tag called CarminaBurana - lets tag all ads that have that stupid song it in it! yeah! Who*s with me?

Seriously, one could have a lot of fun with the tags. Feels free to announce new tags and ask for help filling them - anything that makes people play a little more with them is good I reckon. It*s still very few adgrunts that tag a lot - would be nice if more than a handful people started tagging. wink That*s when it really begins to work.

Though lingerie will always be a big one, I suspect. lol
