2004 Pontiac GTO - Smoking Tires
Hiya
Dunno about US car ads, I*m sure you have some kind of car-ads rules there such as putting a white disclaimer at the bottom of the screen when illegal and/or crazy stunts are pulled - [*closed track professional driver* rings a bell] - here in the EU however, you can*t make an illegal feature the selling point of the ad.
see this post for a Citroen mistake in that department

Kinda funny. wink

I just don*t understand it.
I DO understand that they want to convey the power of the car. I have now seen 2 commercials in which they show this overly-powerful car smoking the tires as if it wanted to see rubber melt.
Why would the convey such a message when IT IS ILLEGAL TO DO SUCH A THING? If a cop saw anyone doing something like that, their butt would be pulled over in a heartbeat!
The Mazda 6 commercials seem more on target. They show the tachometer reaching to 6000 RPM*s, but really make no mention of obnoxious behavior.
There are a LOT of car commercials, and companies take different stances on what to portray, but this new 2004 GTO seems a little too MACHO to me. roll
Anyone? Thanks!

The GTO was built on being macho. 1964, was like, one of the first years that the "muscle car" term was coined. I haven*t seen the spot yet, but I*m sure they are trying to appeal to those that lived in the era, those that understand what a muscle car is and what a muscle car represents now.
I don*t find fault in a car commercial that shows someone burning their tires or other "illegal" activities while driving around.
Sleepy time.
