I went to AdHouse and liked it. The person you should contact is Lauren Slaff. Her email is
adhouse@kb.com
THe class I took was at Kirshenbaum and I think that is where the majority of the classes are held. Check out the website also for the phone #

Ah, you have found my weak spot. I am a HUGE fan of Ad House. Their website is AdHousenyc.com. I only took the intro class, but it was the best thing I ever did.
I don*t know much about other schools, I took intro at AdHouse and one class at SVA, but there was a giant difference. Intro at AdHouse isn*t about walking away with a book, but it really teaches you how to think about ads. Try googling adhouse and copywriter or art director. The samples I found when I did that showed that the ads coming out of adhouse were much better than the ones from SVA classes (or so I think).
Just to keep this fair and balanced, not everyone in my class loved it. Some really wanted portfolio pieces right away, and you just don*t get that in intro. Even some I knew working in the industry thought AdHouse was unrealistic, and SVA gave a more "agency like" experience. My take is, AdHouse is school, you*ll have years for your ideas to get shot down with no explanation, in the intro class you learn to find the good parts of your ad and expand on that.
Ad House is a ghost ship, but probably not for long since I have made myself their unofficial spokeswoman.
Feel free to PM me for more details.
I also have taken Classes at SVA and I didn*t like them at all. So if you have the same feeling I*ll run with that!
thanks for the information

I would like to revise my comments about advertising classes in NYC. DO NOT TAKE CLASSES AT SVA. Not only did I not learn much of anything, but they sent a collection agency after me for $50.
Apparently this was for a registration fee, but I registered through their registrar. Chatted with the guy for quite a while and this fee never came up. Anyway, I went from being mildly unenthused about SVA to now holding a grudge agaist them. And I chatted with a friend who worked for SVA for a bit, and apparently this is common practice there. Who needs this kind of hassel? Just get your act together and get your fees straight, don*t hire thugs to hassel me.
Done ranting. Someone please let me know when and if SVA changes their ways. In the mean time, two thumbs down for SVA. And someday that will mean something coming from me.
Adhouse*s 2004 summer courses just went live
