It*s hard to pick just one. I really like the ads done for the Economist.

Which is your favorite ad or ad campaign of all time?
Could be print, tv, radio, or whatever.
You don*t have to tell why, but it*d be nice if you did.
Great question CG!
My favorite ad, the commercial that inspired me to work in advertising is Nike*s Revolution for their Air Max sneaker. The visuals were quick cuts of professional athletes and regular people working out. Black and white footage was mixed in with grainy color and The Beatles* Revolution played in the background. At the time, the spot was really fresh and full of energy. And I was blown away by the Just Do It tagline. It said a lot. It was bigger than the brand. It was about life, personal choices and the belief that you can achieve anything, if you want it bad enough.
The commercial first aired circa 1987 (I think) when I was in high school, but watching it now.....eh..it*s just an ad.
Hmm.
The ad that made the biggest first impression on me was for - oh dear, now I forget - I think the Independent.
(it*s black and white, grainy, British, and terribly old)
From one angle you see a police car stop at a corner, and a skinhead runs away from it....
From another angle, you see the skinhead push a man with a briefcase up against a scaffolding...
but it*s not until you get the whole picture.....
a ton of bricks falls from the scaffolding and would have killed the man. The skinhead just saved his life.
Goosebumps. grin
damn, i was gonna pick that one....
Oh, I know a fellar at Tot.se who when we went to school told me during some commercial watching "that ad, made me want to be an art director so bad" - Benson and Hedges surreal 1980*s commercial was showing, youknow the one with the minimalist music, lizards, frogmen and finally a guy that opens a giant pack of bensons as if it were a can of sardines...
then it turns into a poster, and when the camera zooms out it*s revealed to be a postersite in rainy old London..
It was very stylish. Although I hated it at the time, I could tell he was still moved by it. wink Pretty different stuff when it came out.
