actually, was this before or after hal linden played barney miller.

Barney Miller ran from '75 through '82, so this was at the height of the show's popularity, which is why he's in the ad.

Barney Miller reached it's highest rating, #16, in the 78/79 season, so Linden would have been at the peak of his marketability as a spokesperson.
