anti smoking QUIT - lung X-Ray adbin, UK

Oh my god, I'm so grossed out. These helpful little bins allow you to dispose of your cigarette butts there, while doubling as a really gross image that may indeed turn you off from smoking, at least temporarily. See, part of the X-ray image is transparent allowing for the accumilated butts inside to be part of the visual. Apparently this is a new medium called "adbins".

Browse adgrunts by title - find future colleagues, friends and fans.

I was talking to Lotta last night over a few super huge Czech beers about this super cute owl tray that she's made (and sells, I'm so getting one it's adorable), and it suddenly hit me - why can't we browse adgrunts by their titles? I mean, in order to find Lottas page with that tray, you first need to find her. So I got cracking, and now there's a rigid horrible-oh-no-don't-box-me-in-please drop-down menu where you can choose a title that suits. Note the word "can", you don't have to. But is a good way that allows other adgrunts here to find you and by extension, your homepage (if listed) by title.
Actor
Photographer
Illustrator
Art Director (etc and so on)

You'll find this drop-down menu under the tab "personal" in your account. To make things a little more rigid, the titles are genderless, "actor" instead of both actor and actress.

Selling 80's music compilations in South Africa

I most likely wouldn't call my product "Kinky Afro" either, as "full of old, but cool music" is not the first thing that pops into my head with that name. This my friends, is probably why I'm not a bazillionaire, as BBDO Cape Towns campaign for Kinky Afro is really quite funny.
Terence Neale directed the flashbacks out of Humanoid & Egg production.

Random poll: I need your input on BANNER AD SUPPORT dear adgrunts

Heya, adgrunts.

It used to be that y'all hated banner as more than life itself. You told me so more than thrice.
It used to be pretty cool to just log in and not see them. It used to be that everyone reckoned it was a good idea to support a service with a coin or three to help it survive.

Now I wonder if things haven't changed. Would you think it was cool to watch ads (as in, the collected commercials of the 42000 strong commercial archive) for FREE, if only there was a twenty second ad that you didn't ask for, that you had to watch before it? And a bunch-a ads around it? Like, banners everywhere! Some even <blink>blinking?</blink> . How about if you could pay to get away from that mess and meet the serene ad-free advertising archive that you meet today when upgrading, not even a single text-ad bugging you? Would that be cool, sortof like an opt-out option?

The only reason I'm asking is because traffic and want clearly needs me to upgrade on the servers and bandwidth, but if we can't figure out a way to pay for this together. Well, it sadly won't happen. I'd much prefer to make things happen, man.

So I'd REALLY like to know what adgrunts think today about it. I'm guessing peoples minds might have changed but I'm not sure.

FireFlies to Light Up the California Coast

For those cyclists in the ad biz that have dreamed about riding in the French Alps with the FireFlies (www.thefirefliesride.com), but could not manage to get away, here's your chance to be part of a great cause. This year, a group is heading along the California Coast. Planned by veteran FireFlies Jake Scott and Bryan Farhy, the event will take place June 8-14, riding the 550 miles from San Francisco to LA.

As with its annual event in France, the 2008 FireFlies West ride is in aid of Leuka, providing continued support for the research and treatment unit for leukaemia at the Hammersmith Hospital in London.

If you are interested in riding the whole way - or even joining them for a stage - please contact bryan@restlessfilms.tv. Those who cannot make the ride are encouraged to join the group for the welcoming party at the Kings Head Tavern in Santa Monica, as the FireFlies arrive on Saturday, June 14.

This year's ride from Evian to Cannes will take place June 10-18, culminating with the arrival of the FireFlies at the Cannes International Advertising Festival.

Vespa S - Squareheads (2008) Ambient (Canada)

Dan Bergeron (aka fauxreel) has been very busy this past month plastering Canada with 324 seven-foot-tall Vespa Squareheads wheatpastes to promote the new Vespa S in Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver.

Vespa's aren’t just scooters, they’re a fashion statement, an extension of the rider. This is particularly true of the Vespa S re-issue. It's square headlight and mirrors may seem like subtle differences to some but to those who know, it makes the S, and the people who ride them, a breed unto their own. It’s cool, it’s retro, and so are the people that ride them.
- Glen Hunt, Creative Director, Dentsu Canada.

Sanyo & Saatchi put one million words on a billboard

When Saatchi & Saatchi New Zealand got the Sanyo Xacti CA65 Underwater Camera brief they decided against using any visual and instead made a billboard that will surely get into the guinness book of records - they produced a text-only poster containing one million words.

The world first, 63m poster showed how much more there is to film with the underwater camera compared with the little you could capture with a regular one. Amongst other things, the poster included the world's most comprehensive marine species list, histories of major tsunami and shipwrecks, and Moby Dick and 20 000 Leagues Under The Sea in their entirety.

Bango pinpoints best performing mobile advertising campaigns and avoids advertisers paying too much

Sign up for free service at www.bango.com/analytics

May 12 2008 – Mobile marketers can now turn to the Bango mobile analytics tool and use the new goal comparison feature in its mobile analytics tool to see which mobile advertising campaigns and traffic sources deliver the best conversion rates. Advertisers can also compare the value of the traffic from third-party ad services using independent data provided by Bango Analytics. Some companies have already reported discrepancies approaching 20% between the traffic they are getting and what they have paid for, says Bango.

The Dragon and the beer - Golden Fire, unconventionally strong Heineken

Ninjamarketing shws off a dragon of a launch for Heineken.

They had a giant Dragon egg sculpture in the centre of Turin, did guerrilla with giant dragon teeth strewed over the city, "did wild posting, static cling, ext, a viral web spot (more than 500.000 views in one month), a 3D navigation website (www.goldenfire.it) and more than 100 events in pubs with ambient adv in toilets and other weird stuff is the core of the unconventional marketing campaign made by the Ninjas."

Personally, I think the egg sculpture was the coolest.
Brand tags: Tag a brand and watch the tag cloud.

Brand tags is a site where you can tag a brand/logo and see what other people have tagged it. I have a feeling that the trademark holders won't like this place much, at least not when you look at tags that sound more like consumer complaints....

Starbucks is bitter black heroin bland branded burned burnt burnt coffee , Wal mart is bad evil harmful cheap crap junk treason, comcast is cable internet sucks, Splenda is cancer fake sugar. Coca-Cola fares much better with the big words being always classic coke drink red soda sugar.

Extra credit fun: play the reverse tag game and guess the brand behind the tags!

HP Advanced Photo Paper "Ripped Exit" - ambient/outdoor

When I first saw this I swear I let a little "How the f... did they do that?" and so, for once, the little photos showing how it's was done were necessary. Now all I want to know is where the heck they've been hiding those swiss alps looking quaint towns in Malaysia. This clever little "exit" standee thing seems to have gone on a world tour. Jammy bastard.

One Show Student winners on "Doritos" live brief.

The print category received 376 entries. A Gold Pencil was awarded to art director/writer duo Elliot Nordstrom and Phil Van Buren of the University of Colorado for their campaign titled “There is Only One” which artfully featured the unique Doritos chip as the standout in a sea of generic potatoes chips, tortilla chips and crackers.

Other highlights of the show include a Gold Pencil awarded in the Interactive category to art director Thomas Jonsson and writer Cark Fredrik Jannerfeldt of Berghs School of Communication, Stockholm for “We don’t like banners,” an innovative computer plug-in program that would detect where advertising banners are placed and override them with your own personalized content. The tag line reads: “What if the Internet was just like a bag of Doritos. Filled only with the stuff you like.”

The youtube clip that needed to save "What happens in Vegas"

The footage of Cameron Diaz, drunk getting hitched to an equally soused Ashton Kutcher was "leaked" on the web to help boost interested in the movie "What happens in Vegas" which opened May 9. Adage reported:

those surveyed were asked for their top three choices of movies to see this summer, only 13% of Marketcast respondents named "What Happens in Vegas." Instead, most mentioned blockbusters such as "Indiana Jones" (May 22) or "Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian" (May 16). In short, when a film is tracking behind pictures that don't even open until two to three weeks after it does, the studio releasing it has a potentially significant problem.

Complicating matters, Ms. Diaz was forced to skip its press junket last weekend after the sudden death of her father on April 15.

That has not been lost on Fox. The studio hastily cut new TV spots showcasing broader humor that might skew more male, and the planned leak of the illicit "wedding video" may yet stir up interest among heretofore unenthusiastic males.

"The 'wedding video' is only in the actual movie for a little bit, but they shot 10 minutes of footage, and it's fucking hilarious," said Shawn Levy, a producer on "Vegas" who has also directed the comedies "Night at the Museum" and "Cheaper by the Dozen" for Fox.

So far "What happens in Vegas" has received mixed reviews, and how many saw it the opening weekend hasn't been announced yet.
