Nominate your favorite blog to the Battle of the ad BlogsYes, it is early days yet - still in the interest of fairness, transparency and all round blog-linking fame, we'd like you to nominate your favorite ad blogs (not this one tho') to the Battle of the ad blogs which will run in Feb 2007. These were the categories last year - if you think it's lacking you should suggest another category, describe it and motivate why. It's quite difficult to narrow all these different voices down to a specific category! (more inside) #1 Best international blog. #2 Best Ad-Porn Blog - showing a lot of images #3 Best General Ad Commentary #4 Best Ad Commentary not from the United States #5 Best Commercial Ad Blog #6 Best Ad Agency Ad Blog #7 Best Planner/Theorists Blog #8 Best School Ad Blog #9 Best Design Discussion Blog #10 Best Typography Blog #11 Best Marketing Blog # 12 Best PR Blog #13 Best Viral Blog #14 Best Inspiration Blogs #15 Best Online/Interactive Blogs #16 Best Topical Blogs So nominate away simply by leaving a blogs name and link in the comments here, and suggest which category it should be in. As many or as few blogs as you like. And then everyone can see which blogs are nominated right here. Pretty low-tech but I think it'll work. ;) 100 votes

Re: Nominate your favorite blog to the Battle of the ad Blogs
AdScam again please, and Lowe Brazil's blog in the agency category.
Re: Nominate your favorite blog to the Battle of the ad Blogs
Jesus Ask...
It can't be that time again can it?
Obviously I can't nominate myself, do I'll have to nominate you... But I need some UberGeek out there to show me how I can vote for myself a million times without being caught. Someone has to know. A free signed copy of MadScam (why do you think it's called "Scam" for Christs sake?) to the first correct answer.
Oh, One other thing. Any blog that doesn't do at least one post every day should be disqualified... Are you listening Ernie?
Oh... One other, other thing... No fucking magazines... It's for BLOGS... OK... Not Fast Company, or any of that shit which just reprints stuff that's been in the magazine sitting in the fucking dentist's reception for a year.
If I think of anything else, I'll get back to you... Cocktail time.
Cheers/George

Re: Re: Nominate your favorite blog to the Battle of the ad Blog
You can nominate yourself all you want! ;9 But yes, you're right, Fast Company won't be on the contenders list this year I don't think, there's plenty of others who are a much better match.
Re: Nominate your favorite blog to the Battle of the ad Blogs
Thanks George, your nomination list covers quite a few.
I wonder if we'll get more suggestions here if I say If you're not nominated here, you're not in the battle.? Worth a shot.
Re: Re: Nominate your favorite blog to the Battle of the ad Blog
Also, I forgot to say that breaking the non English blogs up by continent is a good idea, do that.
I'd like to nominate Be A Design Group to the design category and http://infopub.blogspot.com French Canadian blog in the north American continent non English category. ;)
Re: Nominate your favorite blog to the Battle of the ad Blogs
I have a suggestion, to make the competition a little more exiting how about not including last years winners? Some of these things get a little boring when the same people win every year.

Re: Re: Nominate your favorite blog to the Battle of the ad Blog
Yaknow, we did discuss that last year - since there are Planners blogs that talk about planning and some copywriters blogs that concentrate on copywriting. There are art directors blogs and designers blogs that talk about general ad news, which shouldn't compete against art directors blogs that talk about art direction specifically.
See what I mean? We group after topic rather than the blog-writers work title. Though often they go together there are enough times that they don't. So AD's and Designers blogs that yap about AD/Desgner stuff go in design discussions, type stuff or ad porn, depending.
I know, you were just yanking my chain as you too are an Art Director, and you have an art directors blog hehehe, just thought I'd reply in the open in case someone else is wondering what our reasoning was behind the various categories. :)
We definatly need to do something else for the non-english blogs as there are many of them that are quite good but some languages have a natural advantage over others being so widely spoken. Dividing up per continent makes sense, that pitches mexican blogs against french Canadians and that could be fun. ;)
Re: Re: Re: Nominate your favorite blog to the Battle of the ad
Not yanking Da, ;-p, it's all good. I came in last year on the blog thing after it started. (I'm always late like that.) Just saying there are differences in the blogs like you say, and hi-traffic sites like Adrants can easily have 10x the readership of most everyone else. No knock on Steve, they kick ass. But like you said, I don't do what he does topic wise all the time. And I agree, I wouldn't want to be considered a pure advertising blog.
I guess it's about regonition for the various diciplines. Seems like a person's title tends to be closely related to their blog themes though where copyranter goes off almost exlcusively how stupidly things are written. I cover design, culture, advertising, movies, etc., although from an AD's POV. No big deal.
Alright, fuck it. I nominate myself. Put me wherever you want.
;-p
Re: Re: Re: Re: Nominate your favorite blog to the Battle of the
Hehe, okidoki MakeTheLogoBigger is nominated.
You'll never go up against adrants though, his blog falls under commercial (as in "making money") because those who do it as work shouldn't be competing against those who do it while procrastinating at work. ;)
I honestly don't know which category makethelogobigger fits best in. But we'll figure it out. :)
Re: Nominate your favorite blog to the Battle of the ad Blogs
Jesus Ask...
Is that all the posts and nominations you've had? What the fuck is going on? In the interest of making it more open and competitive I am going to suggest a couple of extra categories...
1: Stupid Ad Blogs written by people who've obviously been in the business less than three months.
2: Blogs written by egomaniacs (Big category)
3: Blogs written by account execs... These will obviously be done in Power Point using MBA speak cliches throughout.
4: Boozing and screwing around... (Again, another big category, it covers just about everyone I know.)
There you go... Trying to be helpful here. That's the kinda guy I am!
Cheers/George
Re: Re: Nominate your favorite blog to the Battle of the ad Blog
Hahaha, i really like your suggestions god knows there are blogs like that out there. ;)
You should be happy that the nominations are so few, you'll win without even trying. Cakewalk. Yeah, that is pretty sad actually. But at least now people can't come a whining about not having the opportunity to nominate themselves, they have. They just didn't take it. At least not yet. ;) I got a lot of grief about that last year. So here we go - wanna battle in the battle of the ad blogs? Please nominate your blog/your favourite blog and suggest the category it might fit best in. Thank you..
Re: Nominate your favorite blog to the Battle of the ad Blogs
Is it too late to consider Duncan's TV Ad Land, www.duncans.tv, for Best Ad Commentary Not From the United States?
Re: Re: Nominate your favorite blog to the Battle of the ad Blog
Nope, right in the nick of time mate. You'll be listed.
Re: Nominate your favorite blog to the Battle of the ad Blogs
